I am very grateful for your work, Stas. I spent two decades covering conflict, ten of them based out of Moscow. I took words very seriously, even though - or rather, especially because - I was working for a broadcaster. The currency of language use has been devalued in recent years by once-admired outlets. The result is at best nonsensical, at worst a free pass to those who intentionally mislead us - the Kremlin, paradoxically, is very well versed in how muddled language has colossal power and takes words more seriously then we appear to.

The eastern Europeans, Balts, and Finns get it better.

Some of us in western Europe do too but there's achingly slowly dawning realisation in our political circles.
